XXL has released “The 25 Best Hip Hop Albums Of 2014 (So Far).”
50 Cent’s Animal Ambition, Ab-Soul’s These Days…,Step Brothers’ Lord Steppington and Atmosphere’s Southsiders are on the list.
“Atmosphere released their eighth studio album, Southsiders, consisting of 15 tracks without a single featured verse,” XXL says in its piece. “The project serves as an alternative sound for the hip-hop fan opposed to modern day trap or gangsta rap. Slug’s ability to be fun and clever with his rhymes without having to be super lyrical with every verse keeps his wordplay fresh, while complementing Slug’s style of rapping is the diverse production of Ant as he provides a combination of mellow instrumentals fused with jazz samples throughout the album.”
August Alsina’s Testimony, Bas’ Last Winter, Future’s Honest, Iggy Azalea’s The New Classic and Murs and Mayday!’s Mursday also make the list.
Recently, Myspace released a similar list, which featured The Roots’ and then you shoot your cousin and ScHoolboy Q’s Oxymoron.
